How to Reset Your Digital Thermostat
The thermostat works to regulate heating and cooling inside your home to keep its environment both consistent and comfortable. If you haven’t been able to maintain the correct temperature lately, you may have to reset your thermostat. The task is simple enough once you know the essentials. A trusted air conditioning installation company in the area, Reliable Air Conditioning & Heating, shares how to do it here:
-
Switch the batteries. As with most digital devices, such as tablets and smartphones, a thermostat may need an occasional reset to get it going again. How you do it will mostly depend on your current thermostat model. If you have a programmable thermostat, switch off the power and use a coin to pop open the battery door. Remove the batteries, then install them backwards. Leave them that way for at least five seconds, then take the batteries out and put them back in the correct position. Close the battery door and check if the display is back–if it is, then you’ve just reset the thermostat successfully.
-
Do it through the circuit breaker. In some cases, resetting the thermostat may take a bit more effort. You’ll need to turn off the thermostat and head to the circuit breaker box. Look for the breaker that controls your heating and air conditioning system, then flip the switch to the OFF position. Wait at least 30 seconds, then switch it back on. Return to the thermostat and turn it on, as well. Input your desired temperature, then determine if the change has been applied accordingly.
Other Things to Consider
That’s how the usual thermostat reset is done, but if it somehow doesn’t work, you can still troubleshoot it by removing any dirt or debris buildup in the device. If there’s corrosion when you open the device, clean it off carefully with the appropriate solution. If the thermostat still doesn’t work after this, it may be time to turn to a premier HVAC technician like Reliable Air Conditioning & Heating.
