HVAC Maintenance Tasks to Include on Your Summer To-Do List
As the summer heat continues to rise, the need for efficient cooling at home increases. For your air conditioning system to perform at peak performance, it is important to stay on top of needed maintenance.
In this article, a cooling and heating service provider shares some HVAC maintenance tips you need to include on your summer checklist.
Check the Filter
If you haven’t been changing your air filter regularly, now is the time to start. If you own pets or live in an area with lots of pollen or pollution, it is best to replace your filter once every month. If you don’t frequently run your AC and no one in your family has allergies, you may be able to get away with replacing it every three months.
Clean the Condenser Coils
First, turn off the power to your outdoor unit. Then, sweep away grass or leaves using a coil brush. Take your hose and gently wet the coils to get rid of further dirt and debris. Apply a good amount of foaming coil cleanser, and let it sit for five to 10 minutes before rinsing with clean water. Cleaning the condenser coils will ensure that your unit won’t struggle to transfer heat from the indoor air to the outdoor air.
Calibrate the Thermostat
A broken or malfunctioning thermostat can decrease the efficiency of your HVAC system and possibly increase your monthly cooling costs. If the room temperature does not match the setting on your thermostat, try to adjust the device until it is level again. If this simple fix doesn’t work, you might need to move the thermostat away from direct sunlight or drafts.
